The K-pop, getting into the world
K-pop is an
abbreviation of Korean pop (Hangul: 케이팝), is a musical genre originating in South Korea that contains all genres of "popular
music" within South Korea, the term covers a range of styles including
dance-pop, pop ballad, electro pop, R&B, and hip-hop music.
In the late 1880s the American missionary Henry
Appenzeller, began teaching American and British folk songs at a school, these
songs were called changga in Korean language. During the Japanese rule these songs
were used to show the Korean feelings
against the Japanese rule.
In the 1990s
emergence of groups like Seo Taiji & Boys, who marked a revolutionary
moment in the history of K-pop.
In 1995, the entertainment company, SM Entertainment
was founded by Lee Soo-man. Former Seo Taiji & Boys Yang Hyun-suk's member
founded YG entertainment in 1998, as did the South Korean K-pop singer Park
Jin-Young , who established JYP Entertainment in 1997. These companies are
called “the biggest three” among the Korean entertainment industry. Under these
companies have debuted the most representatives groups in the kpop industry,
such as H.O.T. V.O.X., Diva, Shinhwa and g.o.d. currently just Shinwa and g.o.d
are active in the industry.
In the early 2000s the kpop music gained attention
from all over the world, this phenomenon was called “the hallyu wave”.
In 2001 the singer Nicolas Kim, was the first Korean
artist who got in the “billboard hot 100 chart”.
In the 2012 with the song “GangNam style” by PSY, the
Hallyu wave became bigger.
Currently the most representative artists are Big
Bang, 2ne1, PSY(YG entertainment). EXO, Super Junior, SNSD, Red velvet, TVXQ
(SM entertainment). Wonder girls, GOT 7, 2 PM, Twice, Miss A(JYP
entertainment). And from smaller companies BTS (Big hit entertainment), SISTAR
(Starship entertainment); B2ST, BTOB, Hyuna (Cube entertainment).
Hundreds
of boy-bands and girl-groups, debut every year under no just the big three
companies, but from smaller companies.
